Alex Harrison

Alex – 16 – & ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia)

Alex is a 16-year-old boy with Down syndrome who was also diagnosed with Leukemia just before his 3rd birthday.  He went through a successful three and half-year treatment of chemotherapy, and still remains cancer free today.  What he lacks in clear verbal communication he makes up for with charade like motions and sounds to get his point across.  He loves to watch movies, play with others, laugh and just have fun, which goes along with his quirky sense of humor.  And if there’s music playing, you’ll most likely find Alex dancing.  In sports, Alex participates in soccer through SPENSA (Special Needs Soccer Association), and bowling and baseball though the BAD (Beyond All Disabilities)organization.  He also participates in Special Olympics.

Socially, Alex never meets a stranger, and makes friends quickly.  After you meet him, it won’t be long before you’re laughing, or at least smiling.  He is also very caring, and shows great concern and compassion for others who may be sad, sick, etc.

On a more personal note, both of Alex’s grandpas passed away several years ago.  Since then, he appears to be on a mission to find new grandpas, so his grandmas won’t be lonely.
