Dakota Conrad
This mature 8-year-old boy was nominated by his thera-peutic riding instructor who is a big fan of his. Dakota, the son of Erin and Eric Conrad of Festus, has participated in Disability Resource Association’s Healing with Horsepower equine-assisted activities for the past two years.
Dakota is challenged with autism, ADHD and a mood disorder but his instructor says that he listens and follows directions with a concentration that exceeds everyone’s expectations. Dakota is polite to everyone and very kind to the horses even bringing them treats throughout all his sessions. This little boy does not let his disabilities define him and he has advanced his horsemanship skills so far that he is now an independent rider. Dakota’s love for horses seems to prove the adage that happiness is the key to success.
