Julie Meritt

Julie is a passionate reader whose favorite subjects are social studies and English/language arts.

She was born with fibular hemimelia – congenital short femur with limb-length discrepancy and has endured many surgeries and countless therapy sessions. But this hasn’t stopped her from being active in Girl Scouts for eight years, and enjoying camping, archery, working on badges, and doing service projects. She’s currently at the Cadette level.

Julie is also a strong leader, serving on Girl Scout leadership boards several times, which allows her to plan and lead events for other scouts.

Reading is one of her favorite hobbies, and her book collection currently stands at around 400. Her favorite authors are Shannon Messenger, J.K. Rowling, David Levithan, Rick Riordan, and Neal Shusterman. She is also an avid writer, and recently finished writing a 288-page book called Bridge of Secrets, which follows a character named William who tries to find his little brother who went missing. She hopes to have it published someday soon.  Her favorite author is Addin Cassandra Clare.

And in addition to all that, Julie also takes photos for her school’s yearbook, and has written paragraphs for some of the spreads!
